Robert Schumann - romantic cycle 'A Woman's Love and Life'- didactic use of romantic songs in music lessons (connected with diploma concert)

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá cyklem Láska a život ženy, který se řadí do raně romantické písňové tvorby skladatele Roberta Schumanna. V první části práce jsem se snažila proniknout do období přelomu 18. a 19. století. Ve druhé kapitole jsem poukázala na nové postavení umělce ve společnosti, na jeho koncertování a nové zdroje inspirace. Rozebrala všech osm písní již výše uvedeného a zmiňovaného cyklu z hlediska melodického, tempového, dynamického, harmonického a interpretačního. Studovala jsem souvislosti mezi skladatelovou láskou k poezii a hudbě a následné tvorbě písní. Práce přináší lepší orientaci ve spojitosti romantického období a tvorby Roberta Schumann.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis concerns the cycle Love and life of a woman, a work by Robert Schumann, which he created in his early romantic song period. The goal of the first part was to investigate the turn of the 18th/19th century in its cultural context. The second part deals with the new social roles of the artist, his performance activity and the new sources of inspiration. I have analysed all the eight songs of the above mentioned cycle in terms of melody, tempo, dynamics, harmony and interpretation. I have studied the links between the composer?s passion for poetry, music and consequently his song writing. The work provides a guide for orientation in the romantic period and the works of Robert Schumann.
