Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na zobrazení čtyř ženských protagonistek z bestsellerových románů roku 2019, které byly vybrány na základě krátkého průzkumu mezinárodního knižního trhu. První kapitola popisuje kategorii mládeže ze sociální a kulturní perspektivy a snaží se definovat rámec této věkové skupiny v kontextu literatury zaměřené na mladého čtenáře. V další části nabízí přehled historického vývoje literatury pro mládež. V druhé kapitole jsou nastíněna genderová témata této čtenářské skupiny. Jsou zde zobrazena základní témata a charakteristiky, která jsou podstatou vykreslení současné ženské hrdinky jako romance, násilí, sociální rozmanitost, vztahy, téma nezávislosti, komunikace atd. Je uveden také nástin jejich nedávného vývoje v kontextu. Třetí kapitola přidává přehled současné bestsellerové literatury ve smyslu žánru a nastiňuje proces výběru primární literatury. V další části jsou podle kritérií z druhé kapitoly analyzovány díla: Two Can Keep a Secret, autorky Karen McManus, Wilder Girls, autorky Rory Power, The Grace Year, autorky Kim Liggett a Serpent & Dove, autorky Shelby Mahurin. Pátá kapitola uzavírá reprezentaci genderového tématu a popisuje, v kontextu genderové analýzy vycházející z teoretických textů, převážně pokrokové základní rysy popisovaných ženských hrdinek.

Abstract:

This dissertation focuses on a portrayal of four main female characters from four 2019 titles selected based on brief research of international book market. The first chapter describes the young adult from a social and cultural perspective and attempts to define the framework of this age group in the context of literature dedicated to this readership. Next, it offers an overview of the history of Young Adult Literature. In the second chapter, gender representation in recent YA fiction is considered. Basic themes and characteristics, such as romance, violence, diversity, relationships, independence, communication etc., which are the essence of contemporary female protagonist representations, are reviewed in the context of the tendencies of their development. The third chapter provides an overview of current bestselling YA fiction in terms of genres and outlines the selection process for the primary titles. Next, Two Can Keep a Secret by Karen McManus, Wilder Girls by Rory Power, The Grace Year by Kim Liggett and Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin are assessed by criteria selected in chapter two. Chapter five then closes with an overall conclusion on the gender representations and finds the four main female protagonists predominantly progressive in the context of gendered reading of the example texts.
