Comparison of chosen secondary predication constructions in Finnish and Lithuanian

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce srovnává vybrané typy polovětných konstrukcí s neurčitými slovesnými tvary ve finštině a v litevštině. Navzdory odlišné typologické a genealogické klasifikaci oba tyto jazyky disponují velkým počtem nefinitních slovesných forem, které mohou ve větě plnit polopredikativní funkci. Do analýzy je zahrnuta finská temporální, modální, finální a referativní konstrukce, litevská konstrukce používané v participiálních větách, nepřímá řeč a konstrukce ve větách vyjadřujících pocity a vjemy. Cílem je za pomoci teoretických poznatků a jazykových korpusů zjistit, do jaké míry si finské a litevské konstrukce vzájemně odpovídají a analyzovat je na základě dílčích hledisek jako typ subjektu, specifické větné typy, pasivum, časový vztah hlavního a vedlejšího děje, větněčlenská platnost a zápor.

Abstract:

This thesis compares chosen secondary predication constructions with indefinite verb forms in Finnish and Lithuanian. Despite their different typological and genealogical classification, both languages have a large number of non-finite verb forms which can function as secondary predicates in a sentence. Finnish temporal, modal, final and referative constructions as well as Lithuanian constructions used in participial clauses, oblique mood and constructions in sentences expressing sensations and perception are included in the analysis. The aim is to find out to what extent Finnish and Lithuanian constructions correspond to each other on the basis of theoretical knowledge and text corpora and to analyse them considering different aspects such as the type of subject, specific types of sentences, passive voice, temporal relation of main and subordinate action, syntactic function and negation.
