Labour market participation in the context of received social benefits and net earned income - EU countries in a comparative perspective

Abstract:

Tématem předložené diplomové práce je nehlášená práce. Jejím hlavním cílem je zhodnotit vliv vybraných faktorů na pravděpodobnost, s jakou zaměstnanec pracuje neformálně, a to ve vybraných zemích EU mezi lety 2008 a 2012. Jednotlivé faktory byly specifikovány pomocí tří vedlejších výzkumných otázek a jedná se 1) o charakteristiky pracovníků nejvíce ohrožených flexibilizací pracovních trhů, tedy o nízký věk, vzdělání a příjem, 2) o finančních podněty vycházející z daňového a sociálního systému, jež jsou měřeny pomocí mezní daňové sazby, a 3) o geografickou podmíněnost, respektive příslušnost buď k jižním, nebo nově přistoupivším zemím Evropské unie. Práce využívá dat EU-SILC a základem analýzy je využití logistických regresních modelů.

Abstract:

The topic of the submitted thesis is undeclared work. Based on a sample of respondents from selected EU countries between 2008 and 2012, its main goal is to assess a potential importance of selected factors for predicting a probability of workers’ decision to work informally. Three research questions were used to specify the following factors: 1) characteristics of employees suffering from flexibilization of European labor markets, i.e. low age, education and income, 2) financial (dis)incentives related to tax and benefit systems, measured by the marginal effective tax rate, and 3) geographical dependency, i.e. whether the respondents are coming either from southern or new member states of the EU. To answer the research questions, the thesis makes use of the EU-SILC data and employs statistical methods of logistic regression.
