Practical aspects of sound design in motion design

Abstract:

The main aim of my diploma thesis is to map and present sound design and its practical aspects. I study what the sound design consists of and which parts are the most significant to it. I aim at articulation of the basic aspects of sound design, their presentation and analysis. The main goal is to present motion design as an area in which sound design is very significant part along with graphic design and animation. One of my goals is to show the importance of sound design and its role in motion design, whether in terms of immersion, storytelling, delivery of the main meaning or emotions of individual scenes. In the first part of my diploma thesis I present theoretical meaning of motion design as a modern tool of communication and the parts that it consists of. Moving on, I present the role of sound design in animated videos, the process of creation and the phases and techniques of sound design. The final part of my diploma thesis consists of case study in which I present all the aspects on the example of the video of Hudební banka, which was made by Motionhouse, the studio that works on creating animated videos. The case study presents the role and the process of making the sound design for this particular video. The method of my work is the analysis of theory of the single aspects of sound design and the method of the case study in which I present the process of making motion design videos and the sound design and its roles.

Abstract:

Diplomová práca si kladie za cieľ zmapovať a predstaviť sound dizajn a jeho praktické aspekty. Skúma aké zložky sound design tvoria a čo všetko doň zahŕňame. Zameriava sa na artikuláciu základných aspektov sound dizajnu a ich predstavenie a analýzu. Cieľom bude zároveň predstaviť motion design ako oblasť, v ktorej sound dizajn tvorí základnú zložku v rámci diela tvoreného grafickým dizajnom, animáciou a sound dizajnom. Cieľom tak bude poukázanie na dôležitosť sound dizajnu a jeho role v rámci motion dizajnu či už po stránke imerzie, storytellingu či dodania významu a emócií jednotlivým scénam. Diplomová práca sa tak v jej prvej časti zameria na teoretické predstavenie motion dizajnu ako moderného komunikačního nástroja a jeho jednotlivých zložiek. Práca ďalej predstaví rolu sound dizajnu v animovaných videách, ako sound dizajn vzniká a predstaví fázy a techniky sound dizajnu. Záverečná časť diplomovej práce bude poňatá ako forma prípadovej štúdie, kde som jednotlivé aspekty predstavil na konkrétnom prípade, a to na videu Hudební banka z práce českého štúdia Motionhouse, ktoré sa tvorbou animovaných videí zaoberá a práca predstaví rolu a proces tvorby sound designu v tomto diele. Metodou práce tak bude analýza teórie jednotlivých aspektov sound designu a metody prípadovej štúdie, v ktorej predstavím proces tvorby motion dizajnových videí a sound designu a jeho role
