Playful Approach for Twitch Streamers and Viewers

Abstract:

Streamování je nová forma zábavy poutající pozornost milionů lidí. Unikátní kombinace živého přenosu s chatovacími místnostmi přetváří pasivní sledování v hlubší sociální požitek. Tato práce se soustředí na techniky umožňující divákům se aktivně zapojovat, dokonce i ovlivnit směřování her v živém přenosu. Jsou navrhnuty, vytvořeny a podrobně popsány čtyři hry propojené s chatovacími místnostmi služby Twitch. Navíc byla uspořádána dvě uživatelská testování k určení vhodnosti využití chatovacích místností na službě Twitch pro aktivní učast a zhodnocení oblíbenosti navrhovaných mechanik.

Abstract:

Live‑streaming is a new form of entertainment attracting millions of users. A unique combination of broadcast and chat rooms transforms traditionally passive spectating into a deeper social experience. As game‑streaming is a significant part of created content, the thesis examines mechanics allowing viewers to participate actively and possibly alter the outcome of streamed games. Four games were designed, developed, and presented in this thesis implementing Twitch chat interaction. Moreover, two play sessions with volunteers were conducted to evaluate the suitability of Twitch chat interaction for active viewer participation as well as the popularity of proposed approaches.
