Experiencing the roles of mother and teacher in the context homeschooling

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá problematikou sociálních rolí z pohledu žen věnujících se domácímu vzdělávání. Cílem práce je zaznamenat, jak tyto ženy prožívají roli matky a učitelky, v jakém vztahu se tyto role nacházejí a jaké jsou jejich ideály. V rámci výzkumného šetření se byly uskutečněny rozhovory se šesti matkami poskytujícími svým dětem domácí vzdělávání. Následně byly rozhovory zpracovány tématickou analýzou s prvky zakotvené teorie. Participantky popsaly role matky a učitelky jako vzájemně se doplňující, tento jev je zde popsán jako prohloubené mateřství. Konfliktu rolí respondentky předcházejí tím, že svoji roli nevnímají jako roli učitelky. Naopak značný konflikt rolí byl nalezen mezi rolí matky a hospodyně, matky se s ním vyrovnávají zavedením časového harmonogramu a rozvržení činností mezi ostatní členy domácnosti. Ideální matka zde byla charakterizována jako osoba dostupná, poskytující bezpečí, které je dětem vzorem, sytí své potřeby, organizačně schopná a disponuje přirozenou autoritou. Ideální učitel byl popsán jako spravedlivý, uplatňující individuální přístup k žákům, disponující darem předat učivo, otevřený novým poznatkům, tvořivý a nadšený.

Abstract:

This thesis focuses on the topic of social roles, as viewed by homeschooling mothers. It's aim is to record how these women perceive their role as a mother and as a teacher, what the relationship between these roles is, and what ideals the participants hold in respect to these roles. The research presented in this thesis consists of six interviews with mothers who educate their children at home. These interviews have been examined using thematic analysis with elements of grounded theory. The participants perceive that their roles complement each other, this phenomenon is described here as expanded motherhood. The respondents avoid a role conflict by not viewing themselves as teachers. However, significant conflict was discovered between the roles of mother and housewife. The participants deal with this conflict by implementing time schedules and dividing chores among other members of the household. The ideal mother was characterised as being available, offering safety, being a good role model, someone who is able to satisfy her needs, who is a good organiser and has natural authority. The ideal teacher was described as fair, with an individualised approach to each student, with a gift for passing on knowledge, open to new ideas, creative and enthusiastic.
