Stoics and David Humes conception of Freedom, Determinism and Causality.

Abstract:

Diplomová práce Svoboda, determinismus a kauzalita Stoikové i David Hume se soustředí na problematiku týkající se spojení svobody s determinismem, jelikož mnozí se domnívají, pravděpodobně na základě obecné definice determinismu, která zahrnuje myšlenku, že nic se neděje bez příčiny a, že vše je již dopředu dáno, že svobodu nelze sloučit s determinismem. Tato práce si klade za cíl analyzovat vztah svobody a determinismus u stoiků a Davida Huma, a to jako problémy protikladné, ale také kompatibilní. Cílem bude prokázat u stoiků i u Huma možnost svobodného lidského rozhodování i za předpokladu, že naše jednání může být determinováno. Diplomová práce je rozdělena do sedmi kapitol (helénistická filosofie-stoikové, David Hume, determinismus, kauzalita, svoboda, kompatibilismus, osud). Vzhledem k tomu, že stoikové ani David Hume nepatří mezi přísné deterministy a u obou se objevuje možnost určité formy svobody, získává své opodstatnění právě kompatibilismus, který je zastáncem tvrzení, že svoboda je slučitelná s determinismem.

Abstract:

Diploma Thesis Freedom, Determinism and Causality Both Stoics and David Hume concentrate on issues related to the union of freedom with determinism, as many believe, probably based on a general definition of determinism that includes the idea that nothing is done without cause and that everything is already It has been stated that freedom can not be combined with determinism. This work aims to analyze the relationship of freedom and determinism in stoics and David Hume, both as contradictory but also compatible. The goal will also be to demonstrate to Huma the possibility of free human decision making, provided that our actions can be determined. The diploma thesis is divided into seven chapters (Hellenistic philosophy-stoics, David Hume, determinism, causality, freedom, compatibility, fate). Given that Stoics and David Hume are not among the strict determinists and both have the possibility of a certain form of freedom, compatibility is gaining their justification, arguing that freedom is compatible with determinism.
