High-Speed Rail in China

Abstract:

Práce přináší přehled o aktuální situaci vysokorychlostní železniční dopravy v Číně a zachycuje i možný budoucí vývoj v následujících letech. Součástí je i analýza možného propojení Evropy a Asie pomocí vysokorychlostní železniční dopravy. Cílem práce je komplexní analýza vývoje vysokorychlostní železniční dopravy na území Číny a zhodnocení možnosti propojit Evropu a Asii systémem vysokorychlostní železnice. Na základě rešerše literatury převážně zahraničních zdrojů je zhodnocen rychlý rozvoj vysokorychlostní železniční dopravy v Číně, včetně klíčových faktorů úspěchu, mezi něž patří silná a trvalá podpora vlády, masivní investování do infrastruktury i vozového parku a také spolupráce se zahraničím při výzkumu a vývoji. V závěru práce jsou shrnuty problémy, které v současné době ohrožují čínské vysokorychlostní železnice. Mezi nejožehavější problémy čínských železnic patří nutnost dále reformovat a restrukturalizovat čínské železnice s cílem nalézt vhodné institucionální uspořádání, které zvýší jejich efektivitu a transparentnost. Současně s tím je nezbytné vyřešit otázku zadlužení a dlouhodobé finanční udržitelnosti.

Abstract:

This thesis gives an overview of the current situation of high-speed rail in China and captures possible future developments in the years to come. Part of the analysis is focused on possibility of high-speed rail connection between Europe and Asia. The aim of the thesis is to analyze the development of high-speed rail in China and to explore the possibilities of connecting Europe and Asia with a high-speed rail system. Assessment of the rapid development of high-speed rail in China is based on a literature research of mostly foreign sources. Key factors of chinese success include strong and sustained government support, massive infrastructure and fleet investment, as well as R&D cooperation with foreign countries. Current problems that threaten China's high-speed railway are summarized at the end of the thesis. China's most pressing problems include the need to further reform and restructure China's railways in order to find a suitable institutional arrangement that will increase their efficiency and transparency. At the same time, it is necessary to address the issue of debt and long-term financial sustainability.
