Comparison of platforms providing blockchain technology

Abstract:

Blockchain se v posledních letech stává velmi diskutovaným tématem, které již našlo řadu uplatnění a případů užití v širokém spektru odvětví. Jeho ohromného potenciálu si kromě technických nadšenců všimly i podniky a státní instituce, které se snaží implementovat tuto technologii do svých systémů. Tato situace však představuje výzvu pro softwarové vývojáře, kteří si musejí vybrat ze stovek blockchainových platforem jedinou, na které budou vytvářet své projekty. Práce si tedy klade za cíl porovnání populárních blockchainových platforem na základě stanovených kritérií. Teoretická část seznamuje s tématikou blockchain a podává přehled o principu fungování a stavebních kamenech této technologie. V praktické části byly nejprve analyzovány populární blockchainové platformy vhodné k tvorbě decentralizovaných aplikací, z nichž byly vybrány čtyři k následnému porovnání – Ethereum, Hyperledger Fabric, EOS a Corda. Vhodná porovnávací kritéria byla stanovena na základě analýzy dostupné literatury, zabývající se porovnáním platforem. K naplnění cíle práce byly jednotlivé platformy popsány a na základě shromážděných informací a dat vzájemně porovnány pomocí kvalitativních a kvantitativních kritérií, které poskytují referenci pro výběr vhodné platformy pro danou aplikaci.

Abstract:

In recent years, Blockchain has become a much-discussed topic that has already found a number of applications and use cases in a wide range of industries. In addition to technical enthusiasts, its enormous potential has also been noticed by companies and state institutions attempting to implement this technology into their systems. However, this situation poses a challenge for software developers, who have to choose from hundreds of blockchain platforms the only ones on which to build their projects. The work aims to compare popular blockchain platforms based on established criteria. The theoretical part introduces the topic of blockchain and gives an overview of the principle of operation and the building blocks of this technology. In the practical part, popular blockchain platforms suitable for the creation of decentralized applications were first analyzed, from which four were selected for subsequent comparison - Ethereum, Hyperledger Fabric, EOS and Corda. Appropriate comparison criteria were determined on the basis of an analysis of the available literature dealing with the comparison of platforms. To fulfill the goal of the work, the individual platforms were described and based on the collected information and data compared with each other using qualitative and quantitative criteria, which provide a reference for selecting a suitable platform for a given application.
