The concept of waiting (matsu) in the tanka poems of modern female poets

Abstract:

Předmětem této práce je analýza básní tanka, které obsahují výraz čekat „macu“. Jedná se o básně současných japonských básnířek Tawary Mači a Hajaši Amari. Na začátku práce je krátce nastíněn vývoj básnické formy tanka a důležitost postavení žen při jejím formování. Dále pak je rozebírána aktivita čekání, která je pro celou práci klíčová. Hlavní částí práce jsou analýzy básní, prostřednictvím kterých práce vyvrací tvrzení, že japonské básnířky lze rozdělit do dvou kategorií, v závislosti na tom, jakým způsobem pracují s výrazem „macu“ ve svých básních.

Abstract:

This paper will analyze tanka poetry, specifically poems which contain the expression wait, “matsu”. These poems are written by modern Japanese poetesses Tawara Machi and Hayashi Amari. In the beginning there is a short introduction about the history of tanka and the importance of women who were writing it. Furthermore, the activity of waiting, which is fundamental for this paper, is investigated. The paper’s main focus is on the analysis of poems and arguing against the claim that women can be categorized based on how they use the expression “matsu” in their poems.
