Post-Communist Left in Central-East Europe - comparison of the Czech republic and Poland

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se nazývá "Postkomunistická levice ve středovýchodní Evropě komparace České republiky a Polska". Tématem dané práce jsou dvě nástupnické postkomunistické strany česká Komunistická strana Čech a Moravy a polský Svaz demokratické levice. Cílem této práce je analyzovat a komparovat transformační posun obou zkoumaných nástupnických postkomunistických stran na ideologické škále, zjistit jejich současnou ideologickou pozici a jejich současnou roli ve stranickém systému. Tato práce je rozdělena do tří částí. V první teoretické části své práce se zaměřuji na zpracování teoretického rámce, který bude sloužit jako další východisko pro analýzu a komparaci transformačního procesu nástupnických postkomunistických stran v České republice a v Polsku. V této části čerpám zejména z práce Johna T. Ishyiamy z roku 1999, která se nazývá "The Communist Successor Parties and Party Organizational Development in Post-Communist Politics", dále také čerpám z práce Herberta Kitschelta z roku 1995, která se nazývá "Formation of Party Cleavages in Post-communist Democracies. Theoretical Propositions". Ve druhé části své práce se na základě daného teoretického rámce zaměřuji na samotnou komparaci obou zkoumaných nástupnických stran, přičemž vycházím zejména z práce Andrzeja Piaseckého z roku 2012 nazvané "Wybory parlamentarne w Polsce 1989-2011" a z práce Daniela Kunštáta z roku 2013 nazvané "Za rudou oponou. Komunisté a jejich voliči po roce 1989". Ve třetí části práce analyzuji a komparuji současný postoj zkoumaných stran k minulosti, ekonomice, demokracii a jejich zapojení do mezinárodních struktur. V této části čerpám z relevantních oficiálních internetových stran a z volebních programů české Komunistické strany Čech a Moravy a polského Svazu demokratické levice.

Abstract:

This master thesis is called "Post-Communist Left in Central-Eastern Europe - comparison of the Czech Republic and Poland". The thesis deals with the topic of two successor post-communist political parties the Czech Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia and the Polish Democratic Left Alliance. The main purpose of this thesis is to analyse and to compare transformational shift of both above-mentioned researched successor post-communist parties on the ideological scale, and to ascertain their ideological position and their present role in the party system. The thesis is divided into three parts. In the first part, the author focuses on the processing of theoretical framework which serves as another starting point for analysis and for comparison of the transformational process of successor post-communist parties in the Czech Republic and in Poland. The author derives information predominantly from John Ishyiama´s piece of work published in 1999 and called "The Communist Successor Parties and Party Organizational Development in Post-Communist Politics". In this part, another source of author´s information is Herbert Kitschelt´s piece of work published in 1995 and called "Formation of Party Cleavages in Post-communist Democracies. Theoretical Propositions". In the second part, the author focuses on comparison, which is based on the stated theoretical framework, of both researched successor parties. The author derives information predominantly from Andrzej Piasecki´s piece of work published in 2012 and called "Parliamentary Elections in Poland 1989-2011" (Polish name: "Wybory parlamentarne w Polsce 1989-2011"). In this part, another source of author´s information is Daniel Kunštát´s piece of work published in 2013 and called "Behind the Red Curtain. Communists and their electorates after 1989" (Czech name: "Za rudou oponou. Komunisté a jejich voliči po roce 1989"). In the third part, the author analyses and compares present attitude of the above-mentioned researched parties towards past, economy, democracy, and towards their involvement in international structures. In this chapter, the author derives information predominantly from official relevant web pages and also from election programs of the Czech Communist Party of Bohemia and Moravia and of the Polish Democratic Left Alliance.
