Abstract:

Titulní sloučenina byla syntetizována a byl z ní připraven draselný trifluorborát, od kterého se očekávala lepší stabilita a snadnější zacházení. Přestože toto očekávání bylo naplněno, nepodařilo se najít uplatnění připravené sloučeniny v cross-coupling reakcích. Následně byla jakožto metoda přípravy (Z)-1,2-diarylethylenů optimalizována sekvence Negishiho a Suzukiho cross-coupling reakcí titulní sloučeniny a 3,6-dibrom-9,10-dibutoxyfenanthrenu, s pomocí které byl připraven bromovaný (fenanthrylen vinylenový) trimer, který byl dvojitou Malloryho reakcí úspěšně převeden na derivát [11]helicenu. Poté byly navrženy tři strategie syntézy delších helicenů, které byly následně testovány, avšak ani jedna strategie nebyla prozatím úspěšná. Strategie založená na přípravě vyšších (fenanthrylen vinylenových) oligomerů a jejich fotocyklizaci selhala. Strategie, která spočívala v přípravě helikálních prekurzorů dlouhých helicenů postupným prodlužováním kratších helicenů pomocí 3-brom-6-silylfenanthrenů, nebyla úspěšná, jelikož se nepodařilo v přítomnosti dvojné vazby provést klíčovou náhradu silyl-brom. Zmíněné 3-brom-6-silylfenanthreny, jejichž efektivní metoda přípravy byla vyvinuta jako součást této strategie, mohou najít uplatnění jako mnohostranně použitelné molekulární stavební bloky. Vinylboronáty připravené Negishiho reakcí těchto 3-brom-6-silylfenanthrenů s titulní sloučeninou byly využity také ve třetí strategii založené na prodloužení bromovaného derivátu [11]helicenu pomocí Suzukiho reakce. Předběžné výsledky naznačují, že by tato cesta mohla po optimalizaci vést ke kýženým dlouhým helicenům.

Abstract:

The title compound was synthesized and transformed into a trifluoroborate salt, which was expected to be more stable and convenient to use. While this goal was achieved, the trifluoroborate failed to find application in cross-coupling reactions. For synthesis of (Z)-1,2-diarylethylenes, a consecutive one-pot procedure combining Negishi and Suzuki cross-coupling reactions of the title compound was used. The reaction sequence with 3,6-dibromo-9,10-dibutoxyphenanthrene was optimized to afford a terminally brominated (phenanthrylene vinylene) trimer which was then successfully converted into an [11]helicene derivative by a double Mallory reaction. Subsequently, three strategies towards synthesis of longer helicenes were designed and tested; however, neither of them was successful so far. A strategy based on synthesis of longer (phenanthrylene vinylene) oligomers and their oxidative photocyclization failed. A strategy, which was based on construction of helical precursors to long helicenes by elongating shorter helicenes using 3-bromo-6-silylphenanthrenes, failed because a key silyl-bromine exchange could not be performed in the presence of a double bond. As a part of this strategy, efficient synthesis of the 3-bromo-6-silyphenanthrenes was developed. These compounds can find use as versatile molecular building blocks. Vinylboronates prepared by a Negishi reaction of these 3-bromo-6-silylphenanthrenes and the title compound were also used in a third strategy based on elongating a brominated [11]helicene derivative by a Suzuki reaction. Preliminary results suggest that this strategy could after optimization lead to the desired long helicenes.
