Open-source programy pro čipové karty (nazývané také 'JavaCard') jsou většinou málo používány - i přes jejich velký potenciál. Je totiž obtížné si takový program na kartu nahrát. Často chybí dokumentace či zkompilovaná vydání a proces instalace je technicky náročný. Smart card open-source software is difficult to get started with. The software is often poorly documented, uncompiled and the installation can be complex.
