Tourism Marketing Activities of the Karlovy Vary Region in the Context of Reducing Seasonal Disparities

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se věnuje problematice sezónních disparit a marketingových aktivit Karlovarského kraje. Cílem práce je posoudit sezónní disparity a zhodnotit současný stav prováděných marketingových aktivit Karlovarského kraje ve vztahu k cestovnímu ruchu. Pro zpracování diplomové práce byly zvolené metody analýzy, deskripce, komparace, metody sběru primárních dat pomocí řízených rozhovorů a matematicko-statistické metody v podobě časových řad a jejich trendů a sezónních složek. Ze statistických dat vyplynulo, že v Karlovarském kraji se vyskytují sezónní disparity v měsících leden, únor, listopad, prosinec a částečně březen. Z provedených výpočtů bylo zjištěno, že vyšších výkyvů v počtu přenocování v hromadných ubytovacích zařízeních jednotlivých kvartálů v roce 2017 dosahovali více nelázeňští hosté než lázeňští. Dále bylo zjištěno že sezónnost Karlovarského kraje klesá a v roce 2017 byla na nejnižší hodnotě. Při porovnání růstu počtu hostů a počtu přenocování v hromadných ubytovacích zařízeních s klesající sezónností v roce 2017 lze konstatovat, že celkový stav cestovního ruchu Karlovarského kraje se oproti předchozím rokům zlepšil. Z analýzy atraktivit cestovního ruchu Karlovarského kraje vyplynulo, že lázeňství je primárním produktem a základním identifikátorem Karlovarského kraje. Krom lázeňství Karlovarský kraj disponuje velkým množstvím sportovních a kulturně-historických atraktivit. Celkově jsou autorem marketingové aktivity destinační agentury Karlovarského kraje Živý kraj hodnoceny kladně. Autor došel k závěru, že pro snížení sezónnosti a zvýšení návštěvnosti Karlovarského kraje z pohledu cestovního ruchu je nutné se dívat na problematiku komplexně.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis focuses on the problematics of seasonal disparities and marketing activities of the Karlovy Vary Region. The aim of this work is to assess the seasonal disparities and to evaluate the contemporary state of performed marketing activities of the Karlovy Vary Region in connection to the tourist industry. The diploma thesis was elaborated while using the methods of analysis, description, comparison, methods of primary data collection based on guided interviews and mathematical-statistic methods in the form of timelines and its trends as well as seasonal segments. The statics showed that the seasonal disparities are present in the Karlovy Vary Region during the months of January, February, November, December and partially March. Based on the executed calculations, it was found out that non-spa quests manifested bigger fluctuation in the quantity of overnight stays in large-scale accommodation facilities during the separate quarters in 2017 than spa guests. Moreover, it was discovered that the seasonality of the Karlovy Vary Region is decreasing and in 2017 it was on its lowest value. Based on the comparison of the growth of the number of guests and the number of overnight stays in large-scale accommodation facilities with the decreasing seasonality in 2017, it is possible to note that, compared to the previous years, the overall state of the Karlovy Vary Region’s tourism has improved. The analysis of the attractiveness of Karlovy Vary Region’s tourism proved that the spa industry is the primary product and the basic identifier of the Karlovy Vary Region. Apart from the spa industry, the Karlovy Vary Region is endowed with a huge amount of sports and cultural-historical places of interest. Overall, the activities of Living Land, the destination agency of the Karlovy Vary Region, are viewed by the author as positive. The author concludes that to decrease seasonality and increase the visit rate of the Karlovy Vary Region from the point of view of tourist industry, it is necessary to see the problematics in its complexity.
