Optimization of experimental setup for investigation of laryngeal phonation characteristics

Abstract:

Hlas hraje významnou roli v lidské komunikace a tak je tomu i u nemalé části živočišné říše. Přesto hlas v současnosti stále skrývá řadu ne- probádaných mechanismů. Experimenty s pre- parátem hrtanu, tedy částí těla kde je utvá- řen základ hlasu pomocí vibrujících hlasivek, již v minulosti poskytly řadu převratných po- znatků i mimo tvorbu hlasu. Proto se tato práce věnuje vývoji experimentální sestavy sloužící ke studiu tvorby hlasu, přičemž je cílem obohatit a optimalizovat současný stav experimentální sestavy pro zkoumání charakteristik fonace hr- tanu v laboratoři pro studium hlasu na Univer- zitě Palackého v Olomouci. Následkem je roz- šíření experimentálních možností a zkvalitnění výsledků experimentálních snah. Toho je dosa- ženo pomocí mechanické konstrukce navržené specificky pro potřeby experimentu a využití plně elektronicky řízené manipulace s hrtanem.

Abstract:

The voice plays a significant role in human communication, as well as in considerable portion of the animal kingdom. However, the voice still hides numerous unexplored me- chanisms in the present time. Experiments with larynges, the part of the body where the foundation of voice is produced through the vibrations of the vocal cords, have pre- viously produced many groundbreaking in- sights even beyond voice production. The- refore, this thesis focuses on developing an experimental setup intended for the study of the voice production. The objective is to enhance and optimize the current state of the experimental setup for investigating the cha- racteristics of laryngeal phonation in a voice research laboratory at Palacký University in Olomouc. Consequently, this leads to an ex- pansion of experimental possibilities and an improvement in the outcomes of experimen- tal efforts. This is aproached with mechanical construction designed specifically for experi- mental needs and by using fully electronic larynx manipulation.
