This Diploma thesis presents an analysis of food and dinning scenes in selected works of Herman Melville. The analysis suggests three main areas of interest regarding food and dinning. The areas are sharing and social concern, food and cultures and symbolic role of food. Tato diplomová práce analyzuje roli jídla a stolování ve vybraných dílech Hermanna Melvillea. Analýza představuje tři hlavní oblasti, v kterých se projevuje podobná role jídla a stolování. Tyto oblasti jsou vzájemnost a společenský dopad, jídlo a kultury a symbolická role jídla.
