Comparison of Ernest Hemingway and George Orwell in Spanish Civil War

Abstract:

Španělská občanská válka jako konflikt přitáhla pozornost téměř všech lidí na celém světě, protože v přímém přenosu mohli sledovat projevy fašismu, který v té době čím dál zřetelněji ohrožoval celou Evropu. Cílem mé práce je komparovat dva zahraniční autory - George Orwella a Ernesta Hemingwaye z několika hledisek - jejich působení v konfliktu, politický a sociální postoj a ovlivnění v pozdější literární tvorbě. Nelze opomenout samotný historický kontext války, který bude pro čtenáře užitečný z hlediska přehledu celého konfliktu a orientace v událostech ve Španělsku. A dále samotné přiblížení působení obou autorů v zemi zmítané válkou. Jejich cestu do Španělska, události, které je provázely v průběhu konfliktu, a jejich odjezd ze země. Samotné srovnání pak přináší zajímavý přehled nejen pro laickou veřejnost zabývající se touto problematikou.

Abstract:

Spanish Civil War as a conflict brought to an attention almost all civilians of the whole world, because they could watch the demonstration of fascism that was a menace to Europe at that time. The goal of my thesis is to compare two foreign authors - George Orwell and Ernest Hemingway from various points of views - their acting in war, political and social attitudes and influence in their latter literary work. I cannot ignore the historical context itself, which will be useful for the readers for having overview of the conflict and orientation of events in Spain. And clarification of the action of both authors in war struck country. Their journey to Spain, events that followed them throughout the conflict and their departure from the country. The comparison itself gives an interesting summary not only for the non-professional community dealing with this problematics.
