Abstract:

Diplomová práce „Pád Britského impéria ve 20. století“ pojednává o vzestupu a pádu Britského impéria. Nejprve se autorka zabývá samotným britským imperialismem. Dále se poohlíží do 19. století a popisuje vzestup impéria až do přelomu 19. a 20. století. Hlavní část práce tvoří rozbor událostí vedoucích k pádu impéria, ke kterému došlo během druhé poloviny 20. století. Na konci práce je pojednáno o transformaci Britského impéria v Britské společenství národů, později jen Společenství. Autorka se také zabývá otázkami týkajícími se rasového podtextu britské kolonizace a vlivu britské kolonizace na ovládající i ovládané.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis “The Fall of the British Empire in the 20th Century“ deals with the rise and fall of the British Empire. Firstly, the author deals with the British imperialism as such. Next, she goes back to the 19th century and delineates the rise of the empire until the turn of the century. The main part of the thesis deals with events leading to the fall of the empire which took place mainly during the second half of the 20th century. At the end of the thesis, it is dealt with the transformation of the British Empire into the British Commonwealth of Nations, later only Commonwealth. The author also looks into the racial overtones of the British colonization and the impacts of the British colonization on the ruling and the ruled.
