Life in the Rhythm of Dance: Participatory and observational documentary portrait

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se skládá ze dvou složek: dokumentárního portrétu „Život v rytmu tance“ a textové části, která tento produkt zasazuje do teoretického a metodologického rámce. V části textové se nejprve věnuji problematice definice dokumentárního filmu a poté v ní navrhuji tezi o tendencích ve vývoji portrétu napříč různými médii. Žánr dokumentárního portrétu následně definuji pomocí identifikace jeho konvencí a poté jej dělím na jednotlivé subžánry. K tomuto dělení využívám vlastní klasifikační model, na jehož základě specifikuji subžánr své tvůrčí práce jako portrét participační a observační. Vyjadřuji se také k pozici dokumentárního portrétu v české distribuci, která je relativně pevná a má potenciál se zlepšovat. Zbývající kapitoly reflektují výrobu praktické práce, včetně metod a postupů, které během ní byly využívány. Cílovým médiem tvůrčího produktu „Život v rytmu tance“ je televize. Jedná se o dokumentární portrét manželů Lady a Radka Pernicových, kteří se dlouhodobě věnují společenským tancům. Kromě obrazu těchto konkrétních osob se v něm zabývám také tématem zasahování vrcholového sportu do osobního života.

Abstract:

This thesis consists of two elements: documentary portrait “Život v rytmu tance” (“Life in the Rythm of Dance” in translation) and literary part which puts this product into the theoretical and methodological framework. In the literary part I discuss the topic of definition of documentary film and then I propose the theory about tendencies in the development of portrait across different media. By identifying its conventions I define the genre of documentary portrait and then I divide it into various subgenres. With my own classification model I specify the subgenre of my creative work as participatory and observational documentary portrait. I also describe and comment on the position of documentary portrait in Czech distribution which is relatively good and has the potential to improve. The remaining chapters reflect the production of my practical work. These chapters include methods and procedures used during the production. The target media of the creative product “Život v rytmu tance” is television. It is a documentary portrait of a married couple, namely Radek and Lada Pernicovi, whose lives are devoted to ballroom dancing. In addition to the portrait of this couple, the product deals with the topic of interference of professional sport in with personal life.
