Abstract:

Postindustriální krajina, konkrétně haldy na Ostravsku, představují jedinečné ekosystémy, které hostí rozmanitá společenstva denních motýlů. Tato stanoviště, formovaná historickou těžbou uhlí, prošla primární sukcesí, což potvrzuje unikátnost tohoto habitatu. Je velmi překvapivé, že zcela chybí ucelená studie věnující se denním motýlům na ostravských haldách. Náš výzkum se zaměřuje na analýzu různých funkčních vlastností motýlích společenstev na 10 vybraných haldách, jež se rovněž liší ve svých vlastnostech. Cílem tohoto výzkumu bylo zjistit, jak souvisí různé funkční vlastnosti společenstev motýlů s vlastnostmi hald. Provedli jsme komplexní terénní průzkum za použití standardních lepidopterologických metod sběru dat s důrazem na druhovou diverzitu a abundanci. Diverzita a struktura společenstev motýlů na haldách jsou ovlivněny termickou aktivitou, velikostí plochy využitelné motýly, uhelnosti či neuhelnosti hald a dobou od ukončení veškerých aktivit, což úzce souvisí s různým stádiem ekologické sukcese. Naše výsledky v souladu s literaturou poukazují na význam hald jako alternativních habitatů nebo refugií pro běžné i vzácnější druhy motýlů včetně těch, kteří mají specializované nároky na stanoviště. Zároveň jsme zjistili, že funkční vlastnosti motýlů mezi sebou korelují, což může být obsahem dalšího výzkumu. Studie diverzity a funkčních vlastností společenstev denních motýlů na haldách Ostravska může přinést klíčové poznatky pro pochopení vlivu postindustriálních habitatů na struktury společenstev a jejich vlastnosti.

Abstract:

The post-industrial landscape, specifically the spoil heaps in the Ostrava region, represents unique ecosystems that host diverse communities of butterflies. These sites, shaped by historical coal mining, have undergone primary succession, confirming the uniqueness of this habitat. It is quite surprising that there is a complete absence of comprehensive studies focusing on the butterflies of the Ostrava spoil heaps. Our research analyzes various functional traits of butterfly communities at 10 selected heaps, which also differ in their characteristics. This study aimed to determine how various functional properties of butterfly communities relate to the characteristics of the heaps. We conducted a comprehensive field survey using standard lepidopterological data collection methods with an emphasis on species diversity and abundance. The diversity and structure of butterfly communities on the heaps are influenced by thermal activity, the area usable for butterflies, the coal or non-coal character of the heap, and the time since all activities ceased, which closely relates to different stages of ecological succession. Our results, in accordance with the literature, highlight the importance of heaps as alternative habitats or refuges for both common and rarer butterfly species, including those with specialized habitat requirements. Additionally, we found that the functional traits of butterflies correlate with each other, which could be the subject of further research. Studying the diversity and functional properties of daytime butterfly communities on the Ostrava heaps could provide key insights for understanding the impact of post-industrial habitats on community structures and their characteristics.
