Infections caused by Clostridium difficile toxins

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce je zaměřena na charakteristiku infekcí vyvolaných toxiny Clostridium difficile. Clostridium difficile patří mezí významné původce nozokomiálních infekcí. Jedná se o grampozitivní sporulující bakterii vyskytující se běžné v přírodě, odpadních i povrchových vodách a také v trávicím traktu lidí i zvířat. Za hlavní faktory virulence jsou považovány toxiny A a B, které jsou produkovány toxigenními kmeny Clostridium difficile. Většina patogenních kmenů tvoří také tzv. binární toxin, jehož mechanismus účinku není doposud znám. Střevní infekce vyvolané bakterií C. difficile se mohou manifestovat jako choroba různé závažnosti, která může probíhat jako banální průjmové onemocnění, ale také jako život-ohrožující nemoc. Často obtížně řešitelnými komplikacemi choroby jsou rekurentní formy s opakovanými atakami průjmu.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on the characteristics of infections caused by Clostridium difficile toxins. Clostridium difficile is one of the major causes of nosocomial infections. It is a gram-positive sporulating bacterium common in nature, wastewater, and surface water, as well as in the digestive tract of humans and animals. Toxins A and B, which are produced by toxigenic strains of Clostridium difficile, are major virulence factors. Most pathogenic strains also form the so-called binary toxin, the mechanism of action of which is not yet known. Intestinal infections caused by C. difficile can manifest as a disease of varying severity, which can occur as a banal diarrheal disease, but also as a life-threatening disease. Recurrent forms with repeated attacks of diarrhea are often difficult to solve complications of the disease.
