Palliative Care in Intensive Medicine from the Perspective of Nurses

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá problematikou paliativní péče v intenzivní medicíně. Hlavním cílem této práce bylo zjistit zkušenosti sester s paliativní péčí v prostředí intenzivní medicíny. Pro získání potřebných dat, byl zvolen kvantitativní průzkum, který byl realizován pomocí dotazníku vlastní konstrukce. Celkovým počtem respondentů byl 91. Autorka vyhodnotila, že sestry v oblasti paliativní péče umí zajistit nejdůležitější oblasti v péči o umírající. Podle autorky je pro sestry důležitá důstojná a komplexní péče o umírající, ne vždy je toho docíleno. Výsledkem průzkumu je více vzdělávat sestry, ale i lékaře v oblasti paliativní péče. Dalším poznatkem bylo, že je opravdu důležitá implementace paliativní péče do nemocnic, ale aby vše dobře fungovalo je potřeba spolupráce celého zdravotnického personálu. V závěru práce byla provedena diskuze, kde byly vyhodnoceny všechny cíle a následně zde byly porovnány výsledky s různými průzkumy na téma paliativní péče. Následovalo doporučení pro praxi a závěr, kde bylo celé shrnutí bakalářské práce.

Abstract:

This bachelor’s thesis deals with the issue of palliative care in intensive care medicine. The main goal of this thesis was to identify nurses' experiences of palliative care in the intensive care setting. In order to obtain the necessary data, a quantitative survey was chosen, which was carried out using a questionnaire of my own design. The total number of respondents was 91. The author evaluated that palliative care nurses can provide the most important areas in the care of the dying. According to the author, dignified and comprehensive care of the dying is important for nurses, but this is not always achieved. As a result of the survey, more education is needed for nurses, but also for physicians in palliative care. Another finding was that it is really important to implement palliative care in hospitals, but for everything to work well there is a need for collaboration between all healthcare staff. At the end of the paper, a discussion was conducted where all the objectives were evaluated and then the results were compared with different surveys on palliative care. This was followed by recommendations for practice and a conclusion where the whole thesis was summarized.
