Demographic and socio–economic aspects of aging in the Czech Republic and Sweden

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na komparaci demografických a socioekonomických aspektů ovlivňujících stárnutí populace v České republice a ve Švédsku. Porovnává země jako celky i nižší územní jednotky, tvořeny regiony soudržnosti NUTS 2. Cílem práce je tedy komparovat demografické a socioekonomické faktory ovlivňující stárnutí populace v České republice a ve Švédsku. K naplnění cíle je použito metod analýzy časových řad, regresní a komparativní analýzy. Využívá sekundárních dat Českého statistického úřadu (ČSÚ) a Švédského statistického úřadu (SCB) v časové řadě let 2000–2020 a ukazatelů porodnosti, úmrtnosti, sňatečnosti, rozvodovosti, otázek migrace, ekonomické struktury, nezaměstnanosti a vzdělanostní struktury. Z výsledků plyne, že ve sledovaném období došlo k převýšení seniorské složky nad dětskou, konstantně roste index stáří a střední délka života. Hodnoty úhrnné plodnosti nezajišťují prostou reprodukci populace do budoucna, téměř každé druhé dítě je narozeno mimo manželství a celkový přírůstek obou zemí je tvořen zejména migrací. Populace České republiky i Švédska stárne a pravděpodobně bude pokračovat tento trend i v budoucnu.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis focuses on the comparison of demographic and socioeconomic aspects influencing the aging of the population in the Czech Republic and Sweden. It compares countries as a whole and lower territorial units, formed by NUTS 2 cohesion regions. The aim of this work is to compare demographic and socio–economic factors affecting population aging in the Czech Republic and Sweden. Time series analysis, regression and comparative analysis methods are used to fulfill the goal. It uses secondary data from the Czech Statistical Office (CSO) and the Swedish Statistical Office (SCB) in the time series 2000–2020 and indicators of births, deaths, marriages, divorces, migration issues, economic structure, unemployment and educational structure. The results show that in the observed period, the senior component exceeded the child component, the age index and the average life expectancy are constantly growing. Total fertility rates do not ensure a simple reproduction of the population in the future, almost every second child is born out of wedlock and the overall growth in both countries is mainly due to migration. The population of the Czech Republic and Sweden is aging and this trend is likely to continue in the future.
