Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zabývá percepcí času ve vybraných románech britského spisovatele Kazua Ishigury. Práce nejprve stručně představuje autora. Ishiguro pochází původně z Japonska. Velmi brzy se ale přestěhoval s rodiči do Británie, kde studoval a později také získal občanství. Kapitola dále stručně představuje vývoj jeho tvorby a také ocenění, která za ni získal. Druhá kapitola popisuje některé teoretické přístupy, které se později uplatňují v praxi. Vysvětluje pojmy „nespolehlivý vypravěč“ a „historiografie“, kterých se později užívá v praktické části. Následující dvě kapitoly analyzují už konkrétní dva romány: The Remains of the Day (česky vyšel jako Soumrak dne) – pocházející ze začátku autorovy tvorby –, a The Buried Giant (zatím nepřeložen) – zatím poslední autorovo dílo vydané v roce 2015. Jednotlivé podkapitoly si vždy kladou za cíl prozkoumat určitý pohled na vnímání času v daném románu. Autor práce vždy v první podkapitole zkoumá, jak vnímají čas samotné postavy díla. V dalších podkapitolách analyzuje dílo z pohledu čtenáře a literární vědy. V závěru autor nabízí krátké srovnání obou zmiňovaných románů.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with the perception of time in selected novels written by a British author, Kazuo Ishiguro. At the beginning, the work introduces shortly the author himself. Ishiguro originally comes from Japan. While still a boy, he and his parents moved to Britain where he graduated and later was given a citizenship. The chapter also introduces shortly the development in his novels and describes his popularity in the world. Second chapter describes some theoretical approaches which are later applied in the analytical part. The part explains terms such as “unreliable narration” or “historiography”. Following two chapters, the main part of the body, analyse two particular novels: The Remains of the Day representing the early career of the novelist, and The Buried Giant his last published novel from 2015. In the sub-chapters, several ways of how the time is perceived are analysed. The first sub-chapters always work with the way the main characters perceive the time themselves. In others, the novels are analysed from the point of view of the reader. The last short chapter compares the two novels – it describes their similarities and differences.
