Dental hygiene during clear aligner orthodontic therapy

Abstract:

Bachelor thesis deals with the issue of a dental hygiene during clear aligner orthodontic therapy. The thesis includes information about the principle of the treatment with clear aligners, and describes the course of treatment with clear aligners. To achieve the best results, a doctor, a dental hygienist, and a patient are in a need of co-operation throughout the treatment. Therefore it is necessary to teach the patient about tooth and foil care after initiation of treatment. The role of the dental hygienist is to motivate the patient to regularly clean the teeth and the clear aligners and to select suitable dental tools for the patient. In order for the selected dental tools to be effective and to avoid damaging the hard and soft tooth tissues, it is necessary to teach the patient the correct technique of their use. Since it has been a relatively new orthodontic technique, which is constantly evolving, the content of the whole thesis can be a great benefit in a practice not only for dental hygienists but also for dentists. The theoretical knowledge is used in the practical part of the thesis which has been elaborated on the basis of a questionnaire survey of dental hygienists and patients with clear aligners.

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca sa zaoberá problematikou dentálnej hygieny u pacienta s ortodontickými fóliovými aparátmi. Práca zahŕňa informácie o princípe liečby fóliovými aparátmi a podrobnejšie je popísaný aj samotný priebeh liečby fóliovými aparátmi. Pre dosiahnutie najlepších výsledkov je v priebehu celej liečby potrebná spolupráca lekára, dentálnej hygieničky a pacienta. Po zahájení liečby je preto potrebné pacienta poučiť o starostlivosti o zuby a fóliové aparáty. Úlohou dentálnej hygieničky je motivovať pacienta k pravidelnému čisteniu zubov a fólií a vybrať pre pacienta vhodné pomôcky pre odstraňovanie zubného povlaku. Aby zvolené pomôcky boli efektívne a aby nedošlo k poškodeniu tvrdých a mäkkých zubných tkanív, je potrebné naučiť pacienta správnu techniku ich používania. Nakoľko sa jedná o pomerne novú techniku z oblasti ortodoncie, ktorá sa neustále vyvíja, obsah celej práce môže byť veľkým prínosom v praxi nie len dentálne hygieničky ale aj pre zubných lekárov. Teoretické poznatky sú využité v praktickej časti práce, ktorá bola vypracovaná na základe prieskumu formou dotazníkov venované dentálnym hygieničkám a pacientom s fóliovými aparátmi.
