AU-UN Cooperation in Peacekeeping: Case Study of UNAMID

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá silnými a slabými stránkami hybridních peacekeepingových operací, a to konkrétně případem Hybridní operace Africké unie a Organizace spojených národů v Dárfúru (UNAMID). Hybridní operace představují nový přístup k řešení globálních otázek míru a bezpečnosti díky spolupráci regionální a univerzální organizace. Hybridita operace organizacím umožňuje využít svých komparativních výhod, nicméně je též spojována s řadou výzev. Práce se nejprve věnuje konceptualizaci hybridních operací a následně si klade za cíl identifikovat silné a slabé stránky, které z využití hybridního formátu v rámci mise UNAMID vyplývají. Na základě načerpaných poznatků z analýzy mise UNAMID práce nabízí řadu doporučení, která by mohla být využita pro využití hybridních operací v budoucnu.

Abstract:

This thesis examines the strengths and weaknesses of hybrid peacekeeping operations, specifically the case of the United Nations–African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID). Thanks to regional and universal organisation collaboration, hybrid operations represent a new approach to addressing global peace and security issues. Hybrid operations allow organisations to benefit from their comparative advantages, but they also come with several challenges. This thesis first conceptualises hybrid operations and then aims to identify the strengths and weaknesses that arise from the use of the hybrid format in the case of the hybrid peacekeeping mission UNAMID. Based on the lessons learned from the analysis of UNAMID, the thesis provides a number of recommendations that could be applied in the future use of hybrid operations.
