Functional analysis applied to lithic industry of the final Middle Palaeolithic and the beginning of the Upper Palaeolithic with the aim to reconstruct behaviour of ancient human groups

Abstract:

V této práci jsem se zabývala analýzou funkce kamenné industrie uluzzienu a bohunicienu. Tento materiál pocházel z nalezišť v jižní Itálii: Grotta del Cavallo (Lecce) a Grotta di Castelcivita (Salerno), z toskánské lokality La Fabbrica (Grosseto) a z moravského naleziště Stránská skála (Brno). Cílem této práce bylo objasnit roli vybraných produktů jako dlát, stíradel, odštěpovačů (v angličtině souhrnný název: splintered pieces) a produků s oblokovitě otupeným bokem ( v angličtině název: lunate) a obecně produktů v bohunicienu Nedílnou součástí této analýzy byl experiment, který byl primárně zaměřen na objasnění vztahu dlát, stíradel a odštěpovačů k bipolární technice, jelikož tyto informace v literatuře stále chybí. V závěru mi variabilita z hlediska funkce napomohla k interpretaci interní evoluce těchto kultur, objasnit jejich vztah a přinést další nové poznatky do aktuálně probíhající debaty ohledně původu a rozšíření těchto přechodných kultur mezi středním a mladým paleolitem.

Abstract:

In this study functional approach was applied on Uluzzian and Bohunician lithic industries. It was conducted on Uluzzian lithic assemblage from Southern Italian sites: Grotta del Cavallo (Lecce) and Grotta di Castelcivita (Salerno) and Tuscan site La Fabbrica (Grosseto) and on Bohunician lithic assemblage from Moravian site Stránská skála (Brno). The aim of this work was to clarify the role mainly of specific objectives of production as splintered pieces and lunates in the Uluzzian context and of objectives generally of Bohunician production by applying the experimental approach. Experimental program was mainly focused on splintered pieces in order to understand their relation to bipolar technique as these data are lacking in the literature. Finally the functional variability helped me in the interpretation of the internal evolution of these techno-complexes, to enlighten their synchronic relation and add elements to the debate about the origin and diffusion of European cultural transition between Middle and Upper Palaeolithic.
