Analysis of Climate Migration in the European Union's Discourse

Abstract:

Diplomová práce řeší problematiku klimatické migrace v diskurze vybraných orgánů EU a vývoj fenoménu prostřednictvím analýzy dokumentů vydaných evropskými institucemi za poslední desetiletí. Pro účely analýzy byly vybrány dvě instituce – Evropská komise a Evropská rada, protože jsou zodpovědné za formování vnější politiky EU, pod kterou spadá migrační i enviromentální politika. Práce využívá teorii rámování a teorii sekuritizace s cílem zjistit, jak se problematika klimatické migrace vykresluje ve zkoumaných dokumentech (přepisy projevů, směrnice, doporučení, atd.) a zda se v nich projevují sekuriti-zační tendence Evropské unie.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis addresses the issue of climate migration in the discourse of selected EU institutions and the development of the phenomenon through the analysis of documents issued by European institutions over the last decade. Two institutions - the European Commission and the European Council - were selected for the analysis, as they are responsible for shaping the EU's external policy, which includes both migration and environmental policy. The thesis uses framing theory and securitization theory to find out how the issue of climate migration is portrayed in the examined documents (transcripts of speeches, directives, recommendations, etc.) and whether the securitization tendencies of the European Union are reflected in them.
