Failed states as a regional security threat: case study of the Democratic republic of Congo

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zaměřuje na rozpadlé státy a jejich vliv na regionální bezpečnost. První kapitola vytváří teoretický rámec práce a popisuje základní teoretické koncpece rozpadu státu a regionálních bezpečnostních komplexů. Druhá kapitola analyzuje politicko-historický výoj v Kongu za vlády Jospeha Mobuta a Laurenta Kabily s ohledem na rysy rozpadu státu. Poslední část práce zkoumá vazby ve vojenské, politické, ekonomické a společnské sféře v rámci regionálního bezpečnostního komplexu Velkých afrických jezer, s Demokratickou republikou Kongo na jedné straně a Angolou, Burundi, Rwandou a Ugandou na straně druhé.

Abstract:

This thesis is focused on failed states and their regional security influence. First part creates a theoretical background of the thesis, where basic failed states theories and regional security complexes theories are explained. Second chapter of the thesis analyses politico-historical developments of the Republic of Zaire during Mobutu Sese Seko reign and also during the rule of his successor Laurent Désire Kabila. Last part of this thesis analyses ties in the military, political, economic and social sector of security between states of the Great lakes regional security complex, on the Democratic Republic of Congo on one side and Angola, Burundi, Rwanda and Uganda on the other side.
