Cílem práce je srovnání vývoje diskurzu formujícího se kolem tématu duševních poruch v odborné psychiatrické literatuře z období před a po roce 1989. Reprezentace duševních poruch je chápána v perspektivě sociálního konstruktivismu a foucaultovského poststrukturalismu, tedy jako výsledek sociálně podmíněných procesů, v nichž hraje důležitou roli práce s jazykem a významem.
