Evaluating the relationship between trade liberalization policies and economic growth in different countries or regions

Abstract:

This thesis investigates the relationship between trade liberalization and economic growth across ten developed economies from 1995 to 2019 using panel data analysis. The diploma thesis uses export growth as a proxy for trade liberalization and GDP per capita as a measure of economic growth. Employing fixed effects and Arellano-Bond dynamic panel estimation techniques, the research finds a significant positive impact of trade openness on GDP per capita. Inflation and unemployment have negative effects, while gross fixed capital formation shows an insignificant relationship with growth. The findings confirm a long-run equilibrium among the variables, supporting the argument that trade liberalization contributes to economic development when supported by macroeconomic stability and efficient labor markets. Thesis provides empirical evidence to guide policy decisions in advanced economies aiming to sustain long-term growth.
