Camera-based person presence detection on embedded devices

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce zkoumá návrh vestavěného systému schopného detekce přítomnosti osob pomocí kamery, který je určen k nahrazení tradičních senzorových systémů v monitorech radiace, a zabývá se souvisejícími výzvami. Práce hodnotí výkon zařízení za různých podmínek, například jak osvětlení nebo poloha uvnitř monitoru ovlivňují výsledky detekce, a porovnává výkon různých modelů za různých podmínek. Návrh systému je založen na vývojové platformě Google Coral Dev Board Micro a využívá nástroje jako TensorFlow Lite pro mikrokontroléry pro detekci objektů v reálném čase pomocí modelů hlubokého učení, jako jsou SSDLite MobileDet a YOLO. Výsledky ukazují, že navzdory některým nedostatkům zařízení je tento přístup jednou z možných metod detekce přítomnosti osob pomocí vestavěné platformy, která může být integrována do radiačního monitoru.

Abstract:

This thesis investigates the design of an embedded system capable of camera-based person presence detection aimed at replacing traditional sensor-based systems in radiation monitors and examines the challenges associated with it. The thesis evaluates the performance of the device under various conditions, such as how the lighting or position within the monitor affects the detection results, and compares the performance of different models in different scenarios. The system's design is centered around the Google Coral Dev Board Micro development platform and leverages tools such as TensorFlow Lite for Microcontrollers for real-time object detection using deep learning models such as SSDLite MobileDet and YOLO. The results show that, despite some shortcomings of the device, it is a viable approach to a person presence detection device using an embedded platform that can be integrated into a radiation monitor.
