Cellular immunity of honeybees

Abstract:

V této bakalářské práci se věnuji buněčnému imunitnímu systému včel. Buněčná přirozená imunita je důležitá součást celkového imunitního systému nejenom u včel, ale i u ostatních živočichů. Hlavní složkou buněčného imunitního systému hmyzu jsou hemocyty, které jsou potřebné k důležitým buněčným reakcím, jako jsou fagocytóza, nodulace, enkapsulace, srážení a hojení poranění. Zaměřila jsem se především na včely, protože jsou to důležití opylovači v České republice i jinde na světě, a bez nich by mohl být narušen celý ekosystém. Na základě literární rešerše je zřejmé, že u včelí hemolymfy lze rozlišit šest typů hemocytů, a to plasmatocyty, prohemocyty, granulocyty, oenocytoidy, koagulocyty a „ostatní“. Oproti tomu u hmyzí hemolymfy bylo objeveno až devět typů hemocytů, které se vyskytují u různých taxonů. Různí autoři se však v počtu typů hemocytů neshodují, protože dochází k jejich záměně mezi sebou. Jeden typ hemocytu může mít více různých pojmenování. Řada studií popisuje, že velký vliv na množství hemocytů včely má věk, pohlaví a postavení ve společnosti.

Abstract:

The focus of this thesis is on the cellular immune system of honeybees. Cellular natural immunity is an important part of the overall immune system not just for honeybees but also for other animals. The main components of the insect cellular immune system are hemocytes, which are needed for important cellular responses such as phagocytosis, nodulation, encapsulation, clotting and wound healing. This thesis is focused mainly on honeybees because they are important pollinators in the Czech Republic and in other places in the world, and their absence in the ecosystem could severely disrupt it. State of the art indicates that in honeybee hemolymph six types of hemocytes can be distinguished; namely plasmatocytes, prohemocytes, granulocytes, oenocytoides, coagulocytes and „others“. In contrast, in insect hemolymph there has been described up to nine types of hemocytes, which occur at different taxa. However, different authors disagree about the number of types of hemocytes due to confusion in classification, as one type of hemocytes can have several distinct names. A number of studies have shown that honeybees´ age, sex and status in society greatly influences the amount of their hemocyes.
