Phenomenon of virtual tours and their implementation in museum environment

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá tématem implementace virtuálních prohlídek v muzejním prostředí. Cílem práce bylo analyzovat postoje českých muzejních institucí k virtuálním prohlídkám, konkrétně identifikovat vnímané potenciální přínosy a případné výzvy spojené s jejich realizací, dále byl zkoumán vliv krizových opatření v rámci Covid-19 na jejich význam a mimo jiné i vnímané budoucí vize. Sběr dat proběhl prostřednictvím dotazníkového šetření mezi muzei a následná analýza dat využila kontingenčních tabulek a korelační analýzy ke zkoumání závislostí mezi charakterem muzeí a jejich postoji. Výzkum ukázal, že muzea vnímají virtuální prohlídky spíše jako užitečný nástroj, jelikož jsou si vědoma jejich přínosů, ale zároveň vnímají náročnost v jejich využívání, a to zejména ve finanční a personální oblasti. Zároveň existuje rozmanitost v názoru na jejich přijetí, která je závislá na výkonnostních ukazatelích muzea nebo na typu jeho zřizovatele.

Abstract:

This Master's thesis deals with the topic of implementation virtual tours in museum environment. The aim of the thesis was to analyze the attitudes of Czech museums towards virtual tours, specifically to identify the perceived potential benefits and possible challenges associated with their implementation. Additionally, the impact of Covid-19 crisis measures on their significance was examined, as well as the perceived future visions for this technology. Data collection was conducted through the survey among museums, and the subsequent data analysis utilized cross-tabulation analysis and correlation analysis to examine dependencies between the characteristics of museums and their attitudes. The research showed that museums generally perceive virtual tours as a useful tool, recognizing their benefits, but also acknowledging the challenges in their use, especially in financial and personnel areas. There is also a diversity of opinions on their implementation, which depends on the museum's performance indicators or the type of its founder.
