The role of culture in urban regeneration in Bratislava

Abstract:

This paper is focused on the role of culture in the process of urban regeneration in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. A theoretical framework of the paper discuss different concepts of cultural investments in urban development and current trends and issues of cultural policy making. The empiric part of the paper follow and analyse three case studies of bottom-up cultural revitalisation projects in Bratislava: cultural center in the old market hall Stará Tržnica, creative hub in the areal of old textile factory Cvernovka and creative center in the building of abandoned grammar school Nová Cvernovka.

Abstract:

Práca je zameraná na rolu a postavenie kultúry v procese urbánnej regenerácie Bratislavy, hlavného mesta Slovenska. Teoretické východiská zhŕňajú dostupné koncepty kultúry ako jedného z nástrojov urbánneho rozvoja, ich vývoj a súčasné trendy v tvorbe verejnej kultúrnej politiky. Empirická časť sleduje a analyzuje tri prípadové štúdie projektov kultúrnej revitalizácie v Bratislave. Jedná sa o bottom-up revitalizácie kultúrneho centra Stará Tržnica, kreatívneho hubu v areály bývalej textilnej továrne Cvernovka a kreatívneho centra v budove opustenej strednej školy Nová Cvernovka.
