Awareness of patients with diabetes mellitus about the prevention of diabetic foot syndrome

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem bakalářské práce bylo zjistit, zda jsou pacienti dostatečně informováni o riziku syndromu diabetické nohy, zda znají správná preventivní opatření a jestli podstupují pravidelné kontroly. Metodika: Výzkumný soubor tvořilo celkem 61 respondentů ve věku od 36 do 92 let. Dotazníkové šetření bylo realizováno od března 2017 do dubna 2017 pomocí nestandardizovaného dotazníku. Data byla zpracována pomocí programu MS Excel a prezentována v četnostních tabulkách. Výsledky: Průzkumem byly zjištěny jisté nedostatky v oblasti kontrol diabetiků u lékaře. Dále bylo zjištěno, že mnoho pacientů neví o možnosti návštěv v podiatrické ambulanci a čím se vlastně tato ambulance zabývá. Většina pacientů sice zná komplikace spojené s onemocněním DM, ale dále už neví, jak zabránit komplikacím spojeným se samotným rizikem syndromu diabetické nohy. Mnoho pacientů uvedlo, že by rádi získali další informace spojené s onemocněním, ale více jak polovině dotazovaných si zjistilo informace jen u svého lékaře či sestry. Závěr: Správná edukace pacientů je základ pro úspěšnou léčbu diabetu. Edukace musí být smysluplná a pochopitelná pro každého pacienta. Vždy se snažíme o individuální přístup. Při každé kontrole je potřeba zkontrolovat pacientovy končetiny a opakovat mu, jak správně o končetiny pečovat a jak je důležité chodit na pravidelné kontroly. Dále je potřeba ověřit si, zda pacient rozumí a chápe rizika spojené s jeho onemocněním.

Abstract:

Aim: The aim of the bachelor thesis was to find out whether the patients are adequately informed about the risk of diabetic foot syndrome, whether they are aware of the correct preventive measures and whether they undergo regular checks. Methodology: Research group included 61 respondents of age from 36 to 92 years. The questionnaire survey was conducted from March 2017 to April 2017 using a non-standardized questionnaire. The data was processed using MS Excel and presented in the frequency tables. Results: The survey revealed certain shortcomings in the field of diabetes control among physicians. It has also been found that many patients do not know about the possibility of visiting a podiatric ambulance and what this ambulance is actually dealing with. While most patients have known complications associated with DM, they no longer know how to prevent complications associated with the risk of diabetic foot syndrome itself. Many patients said they would like to get more information related to the disease, but more than half of the respondents found the information only with their doctor or nurse. Conlusion: Proper patient education is the basis for successful treatment of diabetes. Education must be meaningful and understandable for every patient. We always strive for an individual approach. At each check, it is necessary to check the patient's limbs and repeat how to care for the limbs properly and how important it is to take regular checks. It is also necessary to check whether the patient understands and understands the risks associated with his illness.
