Czech-Polish relations and mutual response to events in both countries in the Ostrava region in 1967-1989

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá vývojem česko-polských vztahů a vzájemným ohlasem událostí v obou zemích v letech 1967 až 1989 na území širšího Ostravska. V práci využívám výzkumné metody orální historie a pracuji s literaturou, dobovým tiskem i dalšími písemnými prameny. Zaměřuji se na politický a ekonomický vývoj v obou sledovaných zemích (ČSR i PLR), na různé skupiny obyvatelstva - studentstvo, dělníky, židy či inteligenci a popisuji také významnou událost, jenž do té doby neměla obdoby - volbu polského rodáka Karola Wojtyły papežem a její ohlas v ČSSR. Obecné informace získané studiem příslušné literatury doplňuji poznatky z pramenů archivní povahy (především z fondů regionálních archivů) a osobními výpověďmi pamětníků.

Abstract:

The bachelor's thesis deals with the development of Czech-Polish relations and the mutual response of events in both countries in the years 1967 to 1989 in the wider Ostrava region. In my work I use research methods of oral history and I work with literature, periodicals and other written sources. I focus on the political and economic development in both countries (Czechoslovakia and PLR), on various groups of the population - students, workers, Jews and intelligence, and I also describe a significant event that had no analogues until that - the election of Polish native Karol Wojtyła as pope and her response in Czechoslovakia. The general information obtained by studying the relevant literature is supplemented by knowledge from archival sources (especially from the holdings of regional archives) and personal testimonies of witnesses.
