Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se zabývá tématikou archetypu tzv. “zeleného světa” podle kanadského literárního kritika Northropa Frye. Rámec tohoto archetypu je v práci aplikován na tři významné hollywoodské komedie (tzv. “bromance”), The Hangover (Pařba ve Vegas), The Hangover Part II (Pařba v Bangkoku) a The Hangover Part III (Pařba na třetí). Cílem této práce je poskytnou čtenáři analytickou analýzu těchto tří filmů a poskytnout základ pro případné další analytické studie podobných děl. Diplomová práce je rozdělena do následujících částí: první část obsahuje obecný úvod s popisem tématu práce, jejích cílů a obecných předpokladů, a předkládá kontext práce a popisuje její strukturu a členění. Druhá část obsahuje základní informace ohledně teoretického rámce a pozadí oblasti archetypální literární kritiky a popisuje její hlavní proudy a základní teorie. Třetí část předkládá kontext a podrobné informace týkající se zkoumaných filmů a poskytuje také stručný popis jejich dějových linií. Čtvrtá, nejdůležitější část práce detailně rozebírá prvky archetypu zeleného světa a zkoumá jednotlivé filmy ve vztahu k výskytu těchto prvků. Pátá část práce obsahuje její závěr, souhrn zjištění analýzy a navrhuje další možná témata vhodná k dalšímu zkoumání. Při analýze těchto tří filmů se využívá přístup z perspektivy archetypální literární kritiky, zejména na základě díla Anatomy of Criticism autora Northropa Frye. V práci jsou dále obsaženy i srovnání s jinými díly, ve kterých se vyskytují podobné prvky.

Abstract:

This present thesis deals with the archetype of the “green world” as described by Canadian literary critic Northrop Frye. This archetype is then applied to the films of three major Hollywood R-rated bromance comedies, The Hangover, The Hangover Part II and The Hangover Part III. The aim of the thesis is to provide the reader with an analytical reading of the three films and to provide ground for potential further analytical studies of similar works. The thesis is separated into parts as follows: the first part is a general introduction describing the topic of the thesis, its aims and general expectations, providing context for the work and delineating its structure. The second part provides introductory information on the theoretical background on the area of archetypal criticism and describes its most significant streams and theories. The third part then provides context and detailed information about the three analyzed films, as well as a brief description of their storylines. The fourth and the core part of the thesis describes individual aspects of the green world archetype in detail and analyzes the three films with respect to the appearance of respective features of the archetype in the individual films. The fifth part concludes the findings of the thesis and offers potential areas for further research. The method used in analyzing the film trilogy, archetypal criticism, is used especially with reference to Northrop Frye’s Anatomy of Criticism and comparisons to other similar works exhibiting similar features are drawn.
