Mechanisms of resistance to low and freezing temperature stress in polar autotrophs

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis is an overview of the resistance mechanisms of polar autotrophs to cold and frost stress. It is a summary of information of basic mechanisms, their biological properties, functions, and differences between species of polar autotrophs. The first part of the work contains information about the organisms, stress and the consequences they cause. The basic mechanisms of resistance are reported: polyols, ice nucleation activity proteins, anti-freeze proteins, and the mechanisms that can favor or indirectly protect organisms in a harsh environment. In the second part, there are specified methods of study of these organisms. These methods can simulate temperatures of the natural environment or allow the observation of specific events taking place in resistant organisms. Furthermore, there are the methods of monitoring photosynthetic parameters and other changes occurring under low temperature conditions.

Abstract:

Bakalárska práca je prehľadom literárnych poznatkov o mechanizmoch rezistencie polárnych autotrofných organizmov voči stresu chladom a mrazom. Je súhrnom informácií o základných mechanizmoch, ich biologických vlastnostiach a funkčných rozdieloch medzi druhmi polárnych autotrofov. V prvej časti práce sa nachádzajú informácie o organizmoch, strese a dôsledkoch, ktoré spôsobujú. Sú tu rozobrané základné mechanizmy rezistencie – polyoly, proteíny s nukleačnou aktivitou, nemrznúce proteíny a ďalej mechanizmy, ktoré môžu organizmy v drsnom prostredí zvýhodniť alebo nepriamo ich chrániť. V druhej časti práce sú uvedené metódy štúdia týchto organizmov. Sú to metódy, prostredníctvom ktorých možno simulovať teploty prirodzeného prostredia alebo umožňujúce sledovanie špecifických dejov odohrávajúcich sa v rezistentných organizmoch. Nasledujú metódy, pomocou ktorých možno sledovať fotosyntetické parametre a ďalšie zmeny prebiehajúce za pôsobenia nízkych teplôt.
