Alternative and Fringe Psychotherapies: What do We Know About Them?

Abstract:

Předkládaná přehledová studie shrnuje současný stav poznání na poli alternativních a okrajových psychoterapeutických směrů. Autorka nejdříve popisuje metodologický rámec přehledové studie a postup své práce. Následně se zabývá zvoleným tématem z několika různých úhlů pohledu: Shrnuje jednotlivá pojetí alternativních a okrajových směrů v literatuře a věnuje se problému jejich kategorizace, představuje alternativní a okrajové psychoterapie z pohledu měření výsledku psychoterapie, resp. evaluace psychoterapeutických procedur, shrnuje současný výzkum ve zvolené oblasti, vymezuje alternativní a okrajové směry ve vztahu k profesi psychoterapie (oborovým institucím, psychoterapeutické etice atd.) a nakonec z pohledu kulturních příčin a souvislostí vzniku a rozšíření alternativních a okrajových psychoterapií. Výsledkem práce je komplexní a úplný přehled o alternativních a okrajových psychoterapeutických směrech, ve kterém autorka nabízí rovněž kritické zhodnocení stěžejních zdrojů či výzkumných studií a navrhuje, kudy by se mohl výzkum alternativních psychoterapií dále ubírat.

Abstract:

The offered diploma thesis is a theoretical review of the field of alternative and fringe psychotherapies. The author describes the methodological framework of a theoretical review and the process and procedures of constructing her study. Then she discusses the thesis topic from several different points of view. She summarizes approaches to the alternative and fringe psychotherapies found in literature and the reasons why it is complicated to categorize alternative and fringe psychotherapies. The study further introduces alternative and fringe psychotherapies in context of measuring the psychotherapy outcome and evaluating psychotherapeutic procedures, and summarizes recent research in the field, describes the relationship between alternative psychotherapies and the profession of psychotherapy (professional organisations, ethics, etc.) and finally discusses the cultural causes of the rise and proliferation of alternative and fringe psychotherapies. The outcome of the study is a complex and comprehensive review on alternative and fringe psychotherapies, in which the author also offers critical evaluation of the core scientific resources and empirical studies in the field, and suggests future directions of alternative psychotherapies’ research.
