The level of fear of death in relation to the age of the respondent and the aspects that condition this fear

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá mírou strachu ze smrti v rámci mnoha aspektů, jimiž je pohlaví, věk, religiozita. Teoretická část ukotvuje a popisuje smrt a umírání v kontextu historie, vývojové psychologie a náboženství. Výzkumná část obsahuje 7 hypotéz a samotný výzkum zkoumá smrt v souvislosti s věkem a pohlavím respondenta. Dále se také zaměřujeme na smrt v rámci náboženského přesvědčení, tedy u věřících a nevěřících jedinců. Doplňujícími otázkami v souvislosti se strachem ze smrti jsou otázky v rámci pandemie Covid-19 a zážitku blízkosti smrti. Výzkumu se účastnilo 203 jedinců v rozmezí 18-81 let. Výzkumná část byla kvantitativní a pro oslovení respondentů bylo využito příležitostného výběru. Dotazník na sociodemografické údaje byl dále také rozšířený o Revidovaný profil postoje ke smrti (DAP-R). V této práci nebyla nalezena žádná korelace mezi pohlavím a škálou Strach ze smrti. Dle výsledků klesá míra strachu ze smrti vzhledem k věku respondenta. Respondenti, kteří jsou, věřící vykazují na škále Strach ze smrti nižšího skóre než jedinci, kteří jsou ateisté.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the degree of fear of death in many aspects. This aspects are gender, age and religiosity. The theoretical part anchors and describes death and dying in the context of history, developmental psychology and religion. The research part contains 7 hypotheses and the research itself examined death in connection with the age and sex of the respondent. We are focusing on death within the framework of religious beliefs, i.e believers and non-believers. Complementary issues related to the fear of death are issues within the Covid-19 pandemic and the near-death experience. The study involved 203 people between the ages of 18 and 81. The research part was quantitative and occasional selection was used to address the respondents. The questionnaire on sociodemographic data was also expanded by the Revised Attitude Profile (DAP-R). No correlation was found in this work between the gender and the Fear of Death scale. According to the results, the fear of death decreases due to the age of the reponder. Respondents who are believers have a lower score on the Fear of Death scale than individuals who are atheists.
