Emotional intelligence in relation to the dark triad

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na zkoumání vztahu mezi emoční inteligencí a temnou triádou. Emoční inteligence (EI) se zaměřuje na schopnost regulace a porozumění vlastních a cizích emocí. Temná triáda je soubor osobnostních rysů, kterým se přisuzuje negativní sociální hodnocení, jako jsou cynismus, vysoké sebevědomí, snížená nebo žádná empatie a manipulování. K dispozici byly dotazníky Krátká temná triáda, Krátká stupnice pro měření emoční inteligence - 10 (BEIS-10) a Situační test řízení emocí (STEM), které byly použity k získání dat od 200 respondentů. Tento soubor zahrnuje: muže N = 51 (25,5 %), ženy N = 147 (73,5 %). Průměrný věk respondentů 27,59, (SD = 9,93). Analýza dat odhalila významné rozdíly v temné triádě v závislosti na pohlaví a věku respondentů. Muži dosáhli vyšších skórů v temné triádě a respondenti ve věkové skupině 18-19 let dosáhli vyšších skórů v narcismu a machiavellismu v porovnání s ostatními věkovými skupinami. Statisticky významná negativní závislost EI s psychopatií a machiavellismem byla prokázána jen v případě emoční inteligence jako schopnost (STEM). Mezi narcismem a rysovou emoční inteligencí (BEIS) byla zaznamenána statisticky významná slabá pozitivní závislost.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis focuses on examining the relationship between emotional intelligence and the dark triad. Emotional intelligence (EI) focuses on the ability to regulate and understand one's own and others' emotions. The dark triad is a set of personality traits that are associated with negative social evaluation, such as cynicism, high self-confidence, reduced or no empathy, and manipulation. Surveys were used to collect data from 200 respondents, including the Short Dark Triad, Brief Emotional Intelligence Scale - 10 (BEIS-10), and Situational Test of Emotional Management (STEM). The sample includes 51 men (25.5%) and 147 women (73.5%). The average age of the respondents is 27.59 (SD = 9.93). Data analysis revealed significant differences in the dark triad depending on the gender and age of the respondents. Men scored higher in the dark triad, and respondents aged 18-19 scored higher in narcissism and machiavellianism compared to other age groups. A statistically significant negative relationship was found between EI with psychopathy and machiavellianism only in the case of emotional intelligence as an ability (STEM). A statistically significant weak positive relationship was found between narcissism and trait emotional intelligence (BEIS).
