What makes contemporary art unintelligible

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá srozumitelností současného vizuálního umění. Jedná se o historicko- -srovnávací práci, jejímž předmětem je proměna umění v důsledku historických a sociokulturních změn a vliv těchto změn na vztah diváka k uměleckému dílu. Práce pojednává o vztahu mezi umělcem, uměleckým dílem a divákem v procesu vnímání uměleckého díla a vizuální komunikace. Současně také sleduje příčiny selhání této komunikace a problematiku interpretace uměleckého díla. Práce se dále zaměřuje na řešení problému přijetí současného umění a jeho nesrozumitelnosti ze strany neodborné veřejnosti, především prostřednictvím edukace.

Abstract:

This diploma thesis concerns the comprehensibility of contemporary visual art. It is a historical-comparative study and it discusses transformation of art as a consequence of historical and sociocultural changes. It also discusses the effect of those changes on the dynamics between the audience and the work of art. The thesis discusses the relationship between the artist, the work of art and the audience both in the process of perception of the work of art and visual communication. It also traces the causes of failure of this communication and the matters of interpretation of the work of art. The thesis further focuses on solving the issues of acceptance of the contemporary art and of its incomprehensibility to the general public, doing so especially through the means of education.
