Abstract:

Diplomová práce s názvem Parthenon Marbles: Čekání na návrat? se zabývá diskutovaným problémem vlastnictví mramorové výzdoby chrámu Parthenon na athénské Akropoli, která byla z chrámu odejmuta a dnes je zhruba napůl rozdělena mezi Acropolis museum v Athénách a British Museum v Londýně. Parthenon Marbles byly odvezeny do Velké Británie počátkem devatenáctého století lordem Elginem, který v tehdejším Řecku, toho času pod nadvládou Osmanské říše, působil jako britský velvyslanec. Jelikož jsou požadavky po sjednocení Parthenon Marbles na jednom místě a zejména jejich návrat z Velké Británie do Řecka stále silnější, bude se diplomová práce zabývat právními i morálními důvody žádostí o navrácení ve spojení s vlastnickými právy lorda Elgina, vlastnictví kulturního dědictví a směrnic, týkajících se kulturního dědictví. Diplomová práce se dotýká otázek identity, národa, kulturního nacionalismu a internacionalismu, retencionismu a konceptu univerzálního muzea.

Abstract:

The diploma thesis “The Parthenon Marbles: Waiting for Return?“ deals with contested ownership of marble decoration once unified on the Parthenon temple in Athens, now stripped off the site and roughly equally divided between Acropolis Museum in Athens and British Museum in London. The Parthenon Marbles were taken questionably legally to Britain by Lord Elgin in the beginning of nineteenth century, who was at that time british ambassador in Greece then ruled by the Ottoman Emire. As the voices of reunification and repatriation of the Parthenon Marbles back to Athens are growing stronger and louder, the thesis explores both legal and moral grounds of the claim brought up within the context of Lord Elgin act and rights, cultural heritage ownership and today's culture heritage regulations. Throughout the diploma thesis issues of identity, nation, cultural nationalism and internationalism, retentionism and concept of universal museum are discussed.
