Organization of art work in the spirit of the present time - Union of Czechoslovak Creative Work

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o Svazu československého díla, s důrazem na období 20.let 20.století. Jednalo se o instituci sdružující umělce, řemeslníky a průmyslové výrobce, hlavním inspiračním zdrojem pro činnost Svazu byly principy německého Werkbundu. V úvodní části práce jsou nastíněny historické souvislosti vedoucí ke vzniku Svazu, včetně krátkého přestavení Werkbundu. Dále jsou popsán vznik samotného Svazu československého díla a dobová situace v československém uměleckém průmyslu. Práce se poté zaměřuje na klíčové cíle Svazu, kterými bylo zušlechťování uměleckého průmyslu v Československu pomocí organizace spolupráce mezi umělci a výrobci, stejně jako propagace uměleckého průmyslu mezi širokou veřejností a zákazníky. Těchto cílů se Svaz snažil dosáhnout především prostřednictvím organizování výstav, soutěží a stipendijních pobytů.

Abstract:

B.A. degree thesis dealing with Svaz československého díla (The Union of Czechoslovak Creative Work), with focus on its activities during the 1920s. The Union drew inspiration in its work from the principles drawn up by the Werkbund in Germany, whose model it adopted as a platform bringing together artists, craftsmen and industrial manufacturers of the time. The introductory part of the thesis outlines the historical context instrumental in the institution´s origin, with a characteristic of the German Werkbund, description of the circumstances surrounding the inception of the Union of Czechoslovak Creative Work, and a survey of the situation in Czechoslovak industry of the time. The text concentrates on the Union´s key goal, namely, the cultivation of design-oriented industrial branches in Czechoslovakia, by organizing co-operation between artists and manufacturers, as well as by propagating design-oriented industry among the general public and consumers. In pursuit of these aims, the Union centered its endeavours around a programme involving the organization of exhibitions and competitions, and the launching of various scholarship schemes.
