Bilingual children and Czech identity

Abstract:

V důsledku migrace vznikají, nejen v České republice, bilingvní rodiny. V této práci se budu zabývat (i)migranty z Vietnamu, potažmo jejich dětmi, které žijí na území České republiky. Základem pojmu bilingvismus je schopnost jedince mluvit dvěma či více jazyky na vysoké úrovni. Jazyk, kterým mluvíme, pomáhá formovat naší identitu. Proto pokud je jedinec bilingvní, jeho identita je ovlivněna a vytvářena skrze jazyky dva. Cílem této práce bude zjistit, jak se vzájemně ovlivňují bilingvismus a konstruování identity v období dětství a dospívání. Práce bude založena na narativních rozhovorech s informanty. Participanty budu získávat metodou sněhové koule a abych postihla širší spektrum, následně taktéž využiji sociální sítě. Primárním kritériem výběru participantů jsem si určila věk, kdy začali být v kontaktu s druhým jazykem, a to maximálně do 3 let. Dále je podmínkou, že participanti v době výzkumu budou studenty středních a vysokých škol.

Abstract:

As a result of migration, bilingual families arise, not just in the Czech Republic. In this work, I will deal with (i)migrants from Vietnam, including their children, who live in the territory of the Czech Republic. Underlying the concept of bilingualism is an individual's ability to speak two or more languages at a high level. The language we speak helps shape our identity. Therefore, if an individual is bilingual, their identity is influenced and created through languages two. The aim of this work will be to see how bilingualism and the construction of identity interact during childhood and adolescence. The work will be based on narrative interviews with informants. I will source partners using the snowball method and, to affect a wider range, I will then also use social networks. By the primary criteria of selecting the factor, I have determined the age at which they became in contact with a second language, up to a maximum of 3 years. Furthermore, it is a condition that the participants will be middle and high school students at the time of the research.
