Description of the evolution of the Litavka river floodplain and its environmental burden caused by mining and metallurgical activities

Abstract:

Diplomová práce je zaměřena na popis vývoje nivy řeky Litavky a jejího ovlivnění těžbou a metalurgickou činností. Litavka a její fluviální systém byl významně poznamenán antropogenními zásahy za posledních 200 let. Jednalo se zejména o zásahy v podobě úprav koryta (zkrácení toku) a vnesení hmot i polutantů z těžby a úpravy rud. Diplomová práce má dvě části. První část se věnuje vývoji toku sledovaného pomocí programu GIS, jímž byly vyhodnoceny vývoj délky toku, boční posun řeky a spádová křivka toku. Zpracováním tohoto vývoje bylo pak možné vybrat vhodné lokality pro odběr nivních sedimentů. Navazující druhá část pojednává o hodnocení kontaminace nivních sedimentů vybraných lokalit. Zájmovými prvky byly Pb, Cd a U. Podle míry kontaminace v jednotlivých hloubkách je odhadnuto období, ze kterého dané znečištění pochází. Z hlediska dynamiky polohy koryta je Litavka velmi variabilní řekou a tento fakt do jisté míry komplikuje hodnocení vlivu antropogenního aluvia. Nakonec je niva Litavky zařazena podle genetické klasifikace.

Abstract:

The thesis is focused on description of the evolution of the floodplain of the Litavka River and its changes due to mining and metallurgical activities. The Litavka River fluvial system was significantly affected by anthropogenic interventions, particularly intensive in the last 200 years. It was mainly affected by the channel adjustments (shortening) and introduction of some materials and pollutants (anthropogenic alluvium) from mining and smelting. Thesis is composed of two parts. The first deals with evolution of the Litavka using the ArcGIS program. There are descriptions of the evolution of the river length, lateral migration, and gradient. Thanks to this first part, it was then possible to select several places suitable for sampling. The second part reports on assessment of contamination of alluvial sediments in these selected places. The target elements were Pb, Cd and U. According to the degree of contamination in varying depths, the period from which the contamination has originated is estimated. The Litavka is a very variable river in terms of lateral channel dynamics. This fact complicates the assessment of the impact of the anthropogenic alluvium. The Litavka floodplain is also classified according to a floodplain genetic.
