Experience of the multilinear literature reading

Abstract:

Tématem bakalářské práce jsou specifika čtení multilineární literatury. Akt čtení budu analyzovat za pomoci povídky The Book of Sand argentinského spisovatele J. L. Borgese. Povídka je dostupná jak v tištěné, tak i v elektronické – v podobě hypertextu. Samotná povídka tak reprezentuje tištěnou i digitální literaturu a poslouží k jejímu srovnání. Část mé práce se zabývá psaním ergodické literatury, krátké povídky. Akt psaní jsem následně i analyzoval. K multilineární literatuře jsem tak přistoupil i z pohledu autora, což přispělo jak k mému porozumění celého problému, tak k závěrům samotným. Ty se týkají především rozdílnosti čtenářova vnímání struktury textu v jeho různých podobách – tištěné i elektronické. Práce je také psána za účelem hlubší studie Borgesova textu z pohledu jeho obsahu. Jeho práce je často naplněna symboly, jež reprezentují dnes již zavedené koncepty. Nejčastěji je spojován s hypertextem, jehož podstatu ve své povídce nevědomky popisuje.

Abstract:

The main theme of this thesis is the specific ways of reading the multilinear literature. I will be analysing the act of reading on the example of short story The Book of Sand by Argentine writer J. L. Borges. The novel is available both in printed and electronic version – in form of hypertext. The short story itself thus represent printed as well as digital literature and it serves us for the purpose of their comparison. Part of my thesis deals with the process of writing ergodic literature – a short story. Subsequently, I analyzed this act of writing itself. Furthermore, I approached the topic of multilinear literature from the author’s point of view, which helped both mine understanding of the problem and the thesis’ conclusions. These deal mostly with the readers’ different perception of the structure of the text in its different forms – printed and electronic. The thesis is also written for the purpose of more thorough exploration of Borges’ text and its content. His writings are often rich with symbols,representing long-known concepts. Borges is most commonly asociated with hypertext – and he unknowingly describes its essence in his short story.
