The Second Crusade against Hussite Bohemia. Differences in the organization, composition and tactics of the parties involved

Abstract:

Tato práce se věnuje vojenství ve střední Evropě na počátku husitské revoluce, od jejího počátku do konce II. protihusitské kruciáty v lednu 1422. Přitom porovnává tradiční feudální taktiku založenou na útoku těžké jízdy a okolnostmi vynucenou defenzivní taktiku husitských vojsk, tvořených v drtivé většině pěchotou a s tím souvisejících změn ve vojenství, ať již ve formě masivního použití palných zbraní, vozové hradby jako mobilního opevnění, či úzké spolupráce složek pěchoty. Všímá si také rozdílů ve výzbroji, organizaci a sociálním složení křižáckého a husitského vojska.

Abstract:

This work focuses on the military in Central Europe at the beginning of the Hussite revolution, from its beginning to the end of the Second Anti-Hussite Crusade in January 1422. In addition, it compares the traditional feudal tactics based on heavy cavalry attack and the circumstantially enforced defensive tactics of the Hussite armies, which consisted mainly of infantry, and the related changes in the military, whether in the form of the massive use of firearms, the chariot wall as a mobile fortification or the close cooperation of infantry units. It also notes the differences in the armament, organisation and social composition of the armies of the Crusaders and the Hussites.
